Calling for a Flood

Scripture: Ezekiel 47; Ezekiel 48; Luke 2

Observation: Then he brought me back to the door of the temple, and behold, water was issuing from below the threshold of the temple toward the east (for the temple faced east). The water was flowing down from below the south end of the threshold of the temple, south of the altar. Then he brought me out by way of the north gate and led me around on the outside to the outer gate that faces toward the east; and behold, the water was trickling out on the south side. (Ezekiel 47:1-2, ESV).

Application: In this passage we see water coming from the temple. It seems to get deeper and deeper. At first its ankle deep and then it becomes deep enough to swim in, too deep to cross. Water has many uses in nature. It can either give life or destroy. If not for water, trees and other plants could not live. We as humans are made of 70ish% of water. We need water to survive. Yet look at what water did to New Orleans and the gulf coast during Hurricane Katrina. It destroyed lives, families and cities. The Holy Spirit can be referrred to as water. In using this analogy for the Holy Spirit, we cannot live with out the Spirit. We need him to survive, he gives us the spiritual sustenance to be alive spiritually to the things of God. Yet sometimes we can get hard and dry to spiritual things and we need the Spirit to flood our hearts and destroy or remove the hard and dry places.

Prayer: Father, You alone are worthy of all honor, praise and glory. I confess that I get spiritually dry, I get used to the routine of life and allow that to make me dry and hard to the calling of Your Spirit. Father I thank you for the Holy Spirit who give me life and breath and allows me to live a new life in You. Holy Spirt come and flood my heart and wash away all the dry and hard places and flood me with you. Clean my heart and bring me nurishment, Amen.
